Thank goodness it’s Friday. One week and two days until holiday, until we can get on a plane and fly away from work and everything I just can’t be bothered with right now, and spend 8 glorious days at a 5 star resort with a big pool and a beach a stone throw away. Excited much? You bet. It’s a sure winner.
As is this guy.
The sun finally came back today to warm our faces after a week of rain. We spent the day recharging our batteries playing outside, feeding and chasing ducks, and doing a bit of healthy cooking (and eating).
In a couple of weeks we head off on a much needed family holiday. This week we’ll have to start planning it and start making lists over what to bring and what we need to get before we go. I can’t wait for a week of fun in the sun with my boys. Beach, sand, pools and blue skies!
It’s been a strange Saturday. We’ve got a lot of balls in the air at the moment, professionally and personally. Reality has the past couple of days come back to us in a big way after our trip, both for better and for worse.
We’re in the think tank. We’re planning a future.
We’ve started house hunting, the clock on my degree has seriously started ticking and there are many plans to be made, about some very big things and some very small ones. We’ll let you in on a few of those as things become clearer.
As for tonight, our dessert experiment is waiting to be tasted, homemade strawberry ice cream made with brown sugar and popping candy. Anakin is sleeping peacefully and we’ve got a date with the late, great Peter Lehmann and one of his bottles of big, bold Shiraz.
(Got a favourite red wine? Any new, big plans for the future? Please tell me about it!)
Some days are best spent like this
xx Dida & Anakin
I got out of the shower today and Anakin shouts excitedly “Pippin! Pippin!”
It’s not the character from Lord of the Rings and it’s not Pippi Longstocking. They’re Anakin’s favourite things. Boobies.
Whether he sees them or not he knows very well where they are. And whenever I pick him up his little hands will find their way under my shirt.
When he feeds he’ll come off, look at me with a big smile and say “pippin” with all the joy in the world wrapped up in that little word.
He can’t say “puppen” properly yet so to him they’re “pippin”, and to me it’s the cutest thing I ever heard.
So it’s Friday again. My partner and his cousins are out partying while I stay home with the baby to work. I’ve had a date with a mummified cat, shot a still life in the kitchen, poured myself a glass of wine and am watching a bad movie with one eye open. I can hear my bed calling loudly.
I hope you all have an excellent weekend! Please do tell of any exciting adventures you have.
And congratulations to Anka over at Keeping it real on expecting another baby! I am so excited for you and hope you’ll share all the joys of the journey with us!
It’s Sunday and the end of another week. We’ve had a great weekend here in our household, laughing ourselves silly and spending most of our time going for walks or on the floor in a bundle of arms and legs. Doesn’t get much better than this!
We managed to take a time out from the floor in front of the camera trying get yesterday’s 365 shot. Without further ado I give you a portrait of our family.
And my very favourite:
What’s your favourite way to spend time with your family?
I hope you’ve all enjoyed your weekend!
I’ve always had a troublesome relationship to Sundays. It’s the end of the weekend and frankly, it’s a bit depressing. When I worked I used to spend Sundays rolled into a ball on the couch desperate to milk every minute of it, just dreading bedtime and the horror that was Monday morning and work. (Yes, I hated my job. Intensely.) Now most days are a blur and it matters less because Monday will start exactly the same way Sunday did, except my partner goes back to work and I… well, I’ll still be doing the same thing I always do.
I’m pretty proud of myself for not missing one day of my 365 project yet. But I’m noticing that it’s harder to get an image I’m happy with. I should clarify that I’m not a photographer although I have a degree in art photography (keyword being art) and my work is photographic. I rarely introduce myself to anyone as a photographer. Yes, it has happened, but in the hierarchy of what I call myself professionally photographer comes after visual artist and light painter. I am always an image maker long before I am an image taker. I simply don’t think like one. And those two things are different. But I digress. Anyway…
There are only so many ways I can shoot Anakin being cute before even I get horribly bored by it. The wig was fun, but I can’t keep shooting him in the same thing either, so my new challenge is not only taking a photo of him every day, but taking one that I’m happy with, one that’s different to the others. I realise that I won’t be able to do that all the time. Some days I just don’t have the time, nor the energy, to figure something out. It’s challenging because it is so removed from the kind of work I make. I haven’t done today’s image yet, but hopefully inspiration will hit me in the face at some point.
At least it’s still Sunday.
