About us

45_52_web

Our family consist of pappa Steinar (38), journalist, educator, creator of the web series The Inland Sea and director of  Melbourne webfest, mamma Dida (36), visual artist, light painter, SAHM and head seamstress at Small Time Vintage, Anakin (4), jedi and (mostly) delightful bundle of joy and baby Isis Indigo (1). We also live with adopted cats Quincey Edward James Fanta Pants and Hedda Kitteh Gabler. Pappa Steinar og mamma Dida moved to Melbourne, Australia, 9 and 11 years ago from Norway. Baby Anakin was born in Melbourne in 2011, and miss Isis in January 2015.

So… that’s the “proper” introduction.

We’re nerds. So much that we named our kid after a character in Star Wars. Me (Dida), I’m  a scatterbrain. I usually blame this on being creative, but sometimes I think it may have other reasons. Since producing a little person this has gotten a lot worse. It does lead to some pretty funny situations, like me putting the paper towels in the dishwasher or being (for a short time) convinced that the year had 252 days in it.

Our kid is pretty excellent and devilishly handsome, but he also lingers somewhat on the dark side when it comes to not letting mummy sleep. I initially started blogging to share stories and photos with our families overseas, but it didn’t take long before I realised it was more for my own sanity and a need to document everything before it’s passed. I’m just happy other people are finding some enjoyment in it as well.

Oh, I should also mention that I have been known to have a somewhat strange sense of humour. I partly blame this on my mother because that’s what you do, right? She provided some good genes and part of those make me very funny. According to myself at least. Some other things about me:

I’m a coffee snob and proud of it.

I love cats and will watch funny cat videos if people send them to me.

I am real good at making Mexcian food and I bake some killer cakes.

I can’t cook a steak to save my life.

I love soap bubbles, hot air balloons and magnolia trees.

I love art and I love being an artist.

I love photography and I love photographing.

I am an image-maker long before I am an image-taker.

I love being a mum almost all the time. My son is by far my greatest artwork.

I ramble. A lot.

So, that’s me…us.  Princess NeverSleeps, Baby StormPoopers 1 &2 and Captain (Leg of) Ham Solo.

  1. Hope you share Mexican food recipes with us. It’s my husband’s favorite and I have no idea how to cook it. Looking forward to reading more of your blog.

  5. You live in Melbourne, so being a coffee snob i pretty much a prerequisite, no?! :).

    • haha.. I guess so! I thought I was a coffee snob in Norway too, but when I look back, I really wasn’t. Last time I checked Norway hadn’t even heard of a flat white. 😀

    • I love your blog too! 😀 And your facebook! Melbourne rocks. I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. Hey, while I remember, have you made baby muesli bars? I’ve been searching for some recipes, but all have tons of sugar in them.

    I just found you!

Your family is hilarious. I’m a bit of a nerd and so is my partner. We have a dog Chewy. If we had have had a boy he would have called him Anakin.. Vader was a close second. Alas I had a girl (Mercy) last year on international Star Wars say!! Yes we get to have a dress up party every year and buy cool collector items for her!!

I look forward to following you.
🙂 may the force be with you

    • Hi Erin! Thank you, I’m very glad you found us! 🙂 Mercy is a pretty great name. If we have a girl next time she’ll be Isis. Dress up parties are my favourite, and getting sweet nerdy presents, even better! I can’t wait to get Anakin a toddler Vader costume. Oh the joys of being a nerd and a parent! We’ve got a bit of Star Wars paraphernalia for him already, but trying to mix it up a bit so we don’t seem too hopeless. haha… I love how he tries to do the Vader breathing when he sees his Darth Vader toys. It’s ridiculously cute.
May the force be with you too!
      xx Dida
